Art Song and Aria Appreciation Class

September 17, 2025 by helpdesk1

In the art song and opera aria appreciation class we will be breaking down a few components of what makes the art form so delicate, grandiose and beautiful. We will touch briefly on the historical context, the musical context and the emotional psychological and human aspect of the music. In addition, I will be performing each of the songs that are talked about in the PowerPoint as well as additional music. So this will be a more immersive way of understanding, opera arias, and art songs through presentation and performance. Presented by Matthew Marano, tenor from the Taconic Opera.

Musical Performance & Meditation: The Piermont Present Moment Kirtan Band

September 17, 2025 by helpdesk1

The Piermont Present Moment Kirtan Band combines singing, instruments, chanting and mediation into one beautiful experience.

Doug Puder leads the band with his bass voice. Those attending can listen quietly or sing with Jodi Piester (soprano), Carol Napier and MaryAnn Sawka (alto), and Roy Sokoloski (bass) as they sing response. Instruments include harmonium, guitar, and drum. We feel we a new genre is emerging which combines modern songs and melodies with ancient mantras. The music often has a spiritual effect but is not religious. Our modern kirtan makes meditative call and response singing or chanting more accessible for many of us.

Artist Reception with Edward Ubiera

September 16, 2025 by helpdesk1

Join us in the Community Room and throughout the exhibit galleries to view and discuss the work of exhibiting artist Edward Ubiera and his exhibition Electric Rainbow.

A series of vibrant oil and acrylic works on canvas, paper and wood panels. Electric Rainbow is a bold celebration of color, energy, and emotion. Each piece pulses with layered texture and saturated hues, capturing the chaotic joy and quiet depth found at the intersection of abstraction and memory.
