Screening of What Happened to Jackson Avenue: A Story of Urban Renewal

January 30, 2025 by

Join special guests Bill Batson and Barbara Williams on Thursday, January 30th, at 6:00 pm for a screening of What Happened to Jackson Avenue: A Story of Urban Renewal.
What Happened to Jackson Avenue offers a rare, real-life account of the human impact of Urban Renewal. Through interviews with people who experienced Nyack’s Urban Renewal first-hand, the film tells the story of how the intended revitalization ultimately resulted in the destruction of an entire community.
Bill Batson, whose family was displaced by the misguided policy, and Barbara Williams, who lived in Nyack during this time, were interviewed by the filmmakers and will participate in a discussion following the screening.
What Happened to Jackson Avenue, a film by Hakima Alem and Rudi Gohl was produced by Phoenix Theater Ensemble. Details and registration on our website events calendar at http://piermontlibrayr.org

Circle Up

January 29, 2025 by

Our weekly poets circle, Circle Up, is happening every Thursday night from 6 PM to 7 PM at X House in Nyack. This week, I’m thinking on doing a performance/delivery workshop, but usually we do either writing or editing. If you want weekly emails or texts about that, let me know and I can add you to the proper list. If you can swing it, cost is $5, paid directly to the venue.
