Perry Lawson Fine Art Presents: SACRED THREADS

May 21, 2025 by helpdesk1

Perry Lawson Fine Art is pleased to present Kahori Kamiya: Sacred Threads, a solo exhibition featuring paintings and sculpture by Kahori Kamiya, a Japanese-born artist now based in Rockland County, NY. Raised in a culture that infuses daily life with spirituality, she draws from Japanese traditions that honor the natural world, ancestral rituals, and the unseen forces that connect all beings. Her multidisciplinary practice—including sculpture, painting, video, and performance—is also deeply influenced by motherhood, exploring themes of nurture, devotion, and the cyclical nature of existence. Sacred Threads run through her work in both concept and form, linking personal experience with ancestral wisdom and bridging the physical and spiritual realms.

The opening reception for this exhibition takes place on Saturday, May 24, 2-4 PM.

Location: Perry Lawson Fine Art, 90 North Broadway, Nyack, NY 10960

Gallery Hours: Friday-Sunday, 12-5 PM, or by appointment

The Fall of Danang and Saigon and the Results of our Hasty Exit: an Author Talk with Gerald McCarthy

May 18, 2025 by helpdesk1

Join us for an Author Talk with Gerald McCarthy. Mr. McCarthy will read two short passages from his book Hitchhiking Home from Danang: A Memoir of Vietnam, PTSD, and Reconciliation, followed by a Q&A.

Big Red Books will be on hand to sell books.

Gerald McCarthy enlisted in the Marines at 17 and volunteered for Vietnam. After the war he went AWOL, then to civilian jail and two military brigs and finally to a Navy psychiatric ward, where he witnessed patient suicides. Medically discharged, he returned home to upstate New York and piecework in shoe factories. Written in two voices—one lucid, one dreamlike—his memoir Hitchhiking Home from Danang (McFarland, 2024) delivers a jump-cut narrative of his troubled adolescence, his wartime experiences and his struggle to come unstuck from his own life. McCarthy earned his MFA from the Iowa Writers Workshop. The recipient of awards from the National Endowment for the Humanities, National Writers Union, and the New York State Council on the Arts, he has been a visiting artist at The American Academy in Rome and is Professor of English emeritus, St. Thomas Aquinas College, Sparkill, New York. His poetry and prose have appeared in numerous magazines and anthologies including: America, New Letters, TriQuarterly, Ploughshares, The Beloit Poetry Journal, Poet Lore, Consequence Forum, The National Catholic Reporter, The Christian Science Monitor, and North Dakota Review; The New Anthology of American Poetry: Postmodernisms 1950-Present (Rutgers), Dismantling Glory and American War Poetry (Columbia), Radical Visions(Georgia), From Both Sides Now (Scribner’s), and Carrying the Darkness (Texas Tech).
