Do you have so many art and craft supplies that you don’t know what to do with? Bring them to the library and swap them for supplies that you would use or would like to try.
Here’s how it works:
* Drop off your unopened or clean, gently-used supplies from Monday, May 5 through Friday, May 9 in the Library Gallery during operating hours.
* Return on Saturday, May 10, 12-4pm to browse supplies brought in by others, and take home what you want .
* Stick around and chat with neighbors, friends, and other art and craft enthusiasts .
* You do not need to donate something to take something.
* Leftover supplies will be donated to the Nyack Center.

In a knife skills class, you’ll master essential techniques to elevate your culinary expertise. You’ll start by learning the proper grip to ensure control and safety, followed by fundamental cutting methods such as slicing, dicing, julienning, mincing, and making citrus supremes for beautifully segmented fruit. The class will cover techniques for working with a variety of ingredients, from delicate herbs to dense root vegetables, helping you achieve uniform cuts for even cooking and presentation.

 

Beyond cutting techniques, you’ll learn how to care for your knives properly, including honing and sharpening methods, and tips for maintaining sharp, efficient blades.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own knife to practice with the tool they’ll be using at home.

 

As a highlight of the class, the vegetables you prepare will be used to create a delicious shared meal. You’ll practice precision cutting to assemble a fresh, vibrant salad, prepare ingredients to complement a perfectly cooked salmon, and expertly slice fruit for a rustic galette. Through this hands-on experience, you’ll not only refine your knife skills but also appreciate how careful preparation enhances flavor, texture, and presentation. By the end of the session, you’ll leave with newfound confidence in your knife-handling abilities and enjoy the satisfaction of contributing to a beautifully crafted meal with your fellow classmates!
