Rivertown Film Celebrates its 25^th Anniversary and the Creative Process at “Inspired” Benefit

September 2026- Rivertown Film continues to commemorate its 25^th Anniversary with a special benefit featuring their annual Inspired event on Saturday, October 10^th at The Nyack Center (58 Depew Avenue, Nyack).  The event kicks off at 7:30p.

This year’s evening is structured around a diverse group of film and video artists sharing the source of their creative fire using 10 slides at 20 seconds per slide. The evening has featured artists in many disciplines in previous years but this season, in keeping with Rivertown’s passion for the art of cinema, the presenters are all involved in film and video. The following is a complete list of the artists who will divulge what inspires them:

SHAR ADRIAS: Filmmaker, dance educator

PASCAL AKESSON: Lens-based storyteller

NICK BEHSON: Director, cinematographer, musician

LOUIS CANCELMI: Actor

CHARLES CASTER-DUDZICK: Artist, filmmaker, production designer

The Emcees for Inspired 2026 are actress and comedian Edy Modica and her mother, Marsha Lustig. 

Doors open at 7pm, and the program begins at 7:30p. Attendees will enjoy a complimentary pre-show dessert buffet, and there will also be a Silent Auction and Raffle drawings. There’s also an opportunity to meet and talk with the artists post-show. 

Tickets are $40/Members, $45/All Others. Inspired often sells out, so purchasing tickets online is highly suggested. 

Rivertown Film is a non-profit organization which was founded in 2001. Their mission is devoted to celebrating, exploring and promoting the art of the motion picture through film screenings and educational programs. Activities in support of this mission are intended to enhance audience appreciation of the motion picture, encourage support for filmmakers and the local film community, provide educational programs related to the art and craft of motion pictures and to help build the cinematic arts audience of the future. Edward Hopper House Museum & Study Center presents Susan Chen: Rooms by the Sea, marking the New York–based artist’s first museum solo exhibition. The exhibition brings together a series of Chen’s richly hued, energetic plein air paintings of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, alongside works on paper and watercolors by Edward Hopper and by Josephine Nivison Hopper.

Centered around Chen’s recent large-scale double portrait, Rooms by the Sea (2026)—a direct tribute to Edward Hopper’s iconic 1951 masterpiece of the same title at the Yale University Art Gallery depicting his Truro studio —the exhibition explores the Outer Cape of Massachusetts through her vibrant, contemporary lens.

3rd Annual “Hopper’s Nyack” Plein Air Pop-Up Week

• A week-long series of outdoor painting events, workshops, receptions, and public activities celebrating outdoor painting (en plein air) across Nyack.

1. “Hopper’s Nyack” Flash Sketch Mob

• Date & Time: Saturday, October 10, 2026 | 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

• Location: Edward Hopper House Museum and around Nyack, NY

• Description: Led by artist Bill Batson, participants create dynamic, interpretive new sketch views of Nyack outdoors in a group environment.

• Program Cost: $10 Members | $15 Public | $20 Household Members (up to 4) | $25 Families (up to 4)
• Led by Bill Batson,* participants will create dynamic and interpretive new views of Nyack. Centered on locations from Edward Hopper House’s Walking Tour, artists of all skill levels will create artworks en masse that capture the streetscape, places, sights, and people of the village. This project is rooted in the idea that Edward Hopper artistically responded to his environment, capturing both the history and contemporary experience of what he saw – so we encourage you to capture the environment through your own creative contemporary lens, too! *This event is modeled on the Flash Sketch Mob of 2012 and 2015 conceived and organized by Bill Batson.

3) “Hopper’s Nyack” Family Day Plein Air Workshop (Part of Plein Air Pop-Up Week)

Location: Nyack Memorial Park, Nyack, NY 51 Piermont Avenue (park corner of Piermont and Depew), Nyack, NY 10960

Description: Presented in collaboration with the Creative Arts Workshop as part of Plein Air Week. A family-friendly outdoor painting session capturing the scenery around Memorial Park.

Cost: Free with RSVP

Families come to Memorial Park for an afternoon of family and children’s art making with plein-air painting of landscapes and objects in nature with acrylic paints. Instruction will be in partnership with Creative Arts Workshop! Adult artists of all skill levels are invited to bring their own supplies and materials to paint outdoors at the Park or throughout Nyack.

 

4) NEW- “Hopper’s Nyack” Adult Plein Air Painting Workshop

• Date & Time: Sunday, October 18, 2026 | 12:30 PM – 5:00 PM (Rain Date: Sunday, October 25, 2026)

• Location: Edward Hopper House Museum & Study Center

• Description: An intensive outdoor painting masterclass co-taught by artists Susan Chen, Heidi Howard, and Susanna Coffey. Includes hands-on painting instruction followed by a mini-critique and reception in the Museum Garden.

• Cost: $200 Members | $250 General Public
• Pre-registration deadline: October 7, 2026. Limited to 20 artist participants.
